During these sessions you may want your child's learning tailored - we will discuss these goals during our assessment appointment. Individual goals may include one of the following:

  • to be fully challenged as a gifted mathematician
  • preparation for an entrance exam
  • preparation for Key Stage 2 SATS
  • preparation for secondary school maths
  • in response to a report made by your child's school
  • In order to catch up with peers

What is the aim of the 11+ sessions?

This very much depends on what stage your child is at and what school they intend to sit the entrance examination for.  Most children will need to be taught proficiency in the following areas:

  • Non Verbal Reasoning
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Maths
  • Grammar
  • Essay Writing

Your needs will be discussed when initially meeting to undertake an assessment, which will be a mock 11+ examination (allow 2 hours).

What does GCSE Maths preparation involve?

We will cover the following areas in order to fully prepare your child for their GCSE:

  • Algebra
  • Graphs
  • Number
  • Shape and Space
  • Statistics and Probability
  • Trigonometry
  • Exam Papers - Popular questions, strategies and time management
  • Coursework

After an initial assessment an expected grade will be set.  High expectations are a key feature of Study Centre, we expect your child to meet our anticipated grade.  However, we also value honesty and under no circumstance will mislead you to "win your business".

GCSE pupils are encouraged to contact their tutor by email or phone, should they need assistance during independent revision.  Their tutor will be available between 9.30am and 9.30pm every day, and if busy will contact them as soon as they possibly can.  We are also experimenting with other 'child friendly' communication channels such as MSN Messenger and Twitter.

OUR FEES

Are fees negotiable?

No.  Prices are as published.  Individual tutoring may be slightly negotiable depending on circumstances - for example, you want more than one child tutored on the same visit.  For individual tuition, travelling expenses will vary depending on your location.

How are fees payable?

Our preferred method is monthly, in advance, by direct debit.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes.  If your child attends more than one session we offer a 20% discount.  If you have more than one child at Study Centre,  the first child pays full price and subsequent children attract a 20% discount.

Do I have to sign a contract?

No - absolutely not.  Study Centre runs 12 months a year, with the occasional break for your tutor!  You will be given plenty of notice of this.

Do you charge for the initial assessment?

Yes.  We charge £15 to cover our expenses.  We always conduct these sessions in your home as we find it helps your child feel comfortable and gives both an opportunity to get to know each other.  The assessments are never rushed and we always strive to answer all your questions.  The results are yours to keep and we use tried, tested and well respected assessment materials and methods

Can my child take breaks from Study Centre?

We understand the needs of both parents and children.  If you need to give your child a break during school holidays, we understand - and will not charge.  But we do expect you to pay for your child's place during term time or we would have to offer that place to another child on our waiting list.

OUR LOCATIONS

Are you likely to start a centre near me?

We are ambitious, and will start a centre where we think there is demand for such a service.  If you think you can find a minimum of 10 children to establish a centre, then we'd love to talk to you.

What facilities are there at Streetly Community Centre?

Streetly Community Centre is an ideal location as it is easily accessed from Walsall, Aldridge, Great Barr, Perry Barr and Sutton Coldfield.  There is plenty of free car parking.  We hold sessions in a spacious boardroom, which includes presentation materials.  We ensure that mineral water and fresh fruit are provided during sessions at no extra cost for our students.
